Put Your Fresh Face Forward for the Holidays

It’s that special time of year again when we can indulge ourselves with some extra treats and good company. While the holidays are certainly a time of enjoyment and celebrating with friends and family, it can also be a stressful time for those working overtime to get the perfect gift or planning an extravagant holiday party for family and friends.

Stress paired with poor eating and drinking habits will reflect on your skin and we know you’ll want to put your best face forward at all the holiday gatherings you’ll be attending over the season.

To keep your best, fresh faced forward we’ve compiled some tips to help this holiday and winter season:

1. Moisturize First

Winter is not a particularly kind season to the skin, the cold air and dry heat indoors can cause dry, flaky skin that may result in wrinkles, eczema or rashes. Many people tend to overlook that the moisturizer they use throughout the spring and summer is not suitable for the harsh winter weather. You should moisturize your skin at least twice a day to maintain the skin’s natural protective barrier. Opt for a cream-based moisturizer in the winter versus a water-based moisturizer that you may use during the summer. Any dermatologist will also tell you that moisturizers with vitamin C and SPF are ideal. Don’t forget to protect your lips and hands with chapstick and hand cream!

Try: Moisturizers which contain glycerine, sorbitol and alpha-hydroxy acids, as they will help retain moisture in your skin. For an extra boost of vitamin C for your skin, you may also want to try MonoDermà C10 during the day, which will help eliminate dark patches from the skin cells, as well as provide UV protection and stimulate collagen.

2. Don’t Forget the Sunscreen

Harmful UV rays are prevalent all year around. In fact, the snow and ice can reflect up to 80% of UV rays, which may cause skin cancer, as well as preventable wrinkles. We suggest using a moisturizer that is at least 15 SPF or higher. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, skiing or snowboarding, you’ll want to invest in something with SPF 30 or higher.

Try: Applying sunscreen at least 30 minutes prior to going outside to all exposed areas of the skin. Vitamin B is known for its restorative and healing properties when applied topically to the skin, so is ideal for post sun exposure and damage. MonoDermà M5 contains an anti-aging serum based on a type of vitamin B to help generate the collagen and elastin in your skin, creating a more youthful appearance for your skin.

3. Cleanse and Get Rid of Dead Skin

Just as you would switch up your daily moisturizer, you may want to change or alternate with a gentler cleanser that won’t over-dry your skin. Add an exfoliating cleanser to your regimen twice a week to slough away dead skin cells, which prevent the skin from absorbing moisture.

Try: Spend some time reading the labels on various cleansers and take note on how your skin reacts differently to the cleansers from the change in weather temperatures. Adding more Vitamin A rich foods to your diet such as sweet potatoes, carrots, dark leafy greens, squash, salmon, etc. will help normalize skin functions to repair negative skin conditions. If you can’t get around to adding more Vitamin A rich foods to your diet, you can try Monoderm A15, which will help reduce deep wrinkles and decrease discolouration on your skin at a faster rate than consuming Vitamin A rich foods.

4. Stay Hydrated

Winter weather is drying enough for the skin, once you factor in the additional high sodium snacks, dishes, spirits and cocktails you’ll be consuming, your skin and body will be screaming for rehydration. Try to counter this by drinking lots of water or herbal teas to aid digestion and won’t dehydrate you even further.

Try: Investing in an insulated BPA free bottle that you can carry around all day. If you don’t like the taste of water on its own, infuse flavour into your water by cutting some slices of fresh fruit or vegetables such as lemon, strawberries or cucumbers. For added moisture to your skin, MonoDermà E5 in the evening will help revitalize dull and tired skin while you sleep and counteract any skin damaged caused by the sun and harsh weather, while hydrating your skin.
